Spiral Handrail

This project was my first time creating a spiral handrail, designed to enhance a set of beautifully crafted limestone steps leading down to a cellar. The natural stone gives off a warm, timeless character in all seasons, so I recommended a solid 30mm round bar rather than the more common bevel-edged handrail.

The most critical part of producing a custom spiral handrail is taking accurate measurements of both the turn and fall of the steps. This ensures the handrail follows the wall at a consistent distance all the way down. For the finish, I added a hammered texture and heated the rail to achieve a rich, dark patina. A final coat of clear lacquer protects the surface while highlighting the handcrafted detail.
